What is the US CYBERCOM?

United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) reached Full Operational Capability (FOC) on Oct. 31, 2010. The mission of USCYBERCOM is to conduct full spectrum military cyberspace operations to support actions in all domains, while denying the same to our enemies. The primary focus is to defend the .mil domain (US Strategic Command, 2015).

The need to deny adversaries the ability to cause harm through DOD networks is increasing as technology grows. This is a much-needed initiative to defend the nation’s critical infrastructure and resources. The USCYBERCOM has plans to increase to 6000+ personnel in 133 teams to accomplish this. One example of the way USCYBERCOM is protecting the nation’s interest through cyberspace is with ISIL. Exact details are classified, but Navy Adm. Michael S. Rogers, Commander of U.S. Cyber Command said “ISIL's ability to generate resources, to generate funding, is something that we're paying attention to” (Pellerin, 2015).
